Question 14: Where do you learn how to love and obey God?

Answer: In the Bible alone.

SCRIPTURAL BASIS

  • Job 11:7

  • Psalm 119:104

  • Isaiah 8:20

  • Matthew 22:29

  • 2 Timothy 3:15-17

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

  1. Why the Bible alone? (The Second London Baptist Confession of 1689 states that “The Holy Scriptures are the only sufficient, certain, and infallible standard of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience.” While nature and creation can clearly demonstrate the goodness, wisdom, and power of God they are not sufficient to give the knowledge of God and his will that is necessary for salvation. God has chosen to reveal himself through the Holy Scriptures.)

  2. Why is it important for us to read the Bible? (Since God reveals himself through His word, it is important that we read, think about, and memorize God’s word so that we can know him.)
